Raqset Al-Shems (Dances of the Sun) Our show as part of Monmouth Women''s Festival was held on Friday March 10 2006 at the Blake Theatre in Monmouth. Pictures and reviews can be seen on the MWF website at www.monmouthwomensfestival.org.uk and on the Blake Theatre website at www.theblaketheatre.org. Jawahir is proud to be part Monmouth Women''s Festival and to help support its nominated charity, the Dodwell Trust which supports health and sustainable development in Madagascar In November 2006 Jawahir took to the stage again. This time the show was produced and perfromed by Jawahir. With the help of freinds, family, theatre staff and all the members of Jawahir the show was a great sucsess which attracted a good audience including the Mayor of Newport. A great experience!
Caerleon Arts Festival For the past 4 years Jawahir have been asked to dance at this popular local event on a stage looking over the river to Christchurch on the hill opposite. There is always a good turn out as people come to enjoy the entertainment, browse the stalls, and of course, watch the sculpters at work creating masterpieces!
Big Arts Week - 2006 In June 2006 2 Jawahir Dancers embarked on a week long workshop with a local Infant school. Debbie Glover and Catherine Howard decided to give up 4 afternoons to show and teach the art of belly dance to pupils from reception to year 2 at Somerton Primary School. A great time was had by all.
Race For Life - 2004 Jawahir will have a go at anything! In the summer of 2004 the whole group took part in the Race For Life in Cwmbran Park. We tried our hardest to dance and shimmy around the track and even brought our own portable music system and instruments. It was a fantastic exprerience eventhough we all came last.
National Eisteddfod 2004 In 2004 Jawahir took part in the National Eisteddfod which was held at Tredegar House in Newport.
Tredegar House Folk Festival Jawahir have been guests at this 2 day folk festival since 2003. The festival attracts dancers and muscians from all over the world from cloggers to traditional Indian dancers. Jawahir are proud to be part of this festival and it also marks the beggining of our performance season.
In all, since Jawahir first started, over 100 shows, festivals, parties and other events have been given. We remain, first and foremost, a group who loves to dance and loves to perform. From Old Peoples Clubs, fund raising events, WI meetings, weddings and birthdays to carnivals and private parties, Jawahir has performed for all sorts of occasions.
