Jawahir Juniors was established in October 2005 by Debbi and Catherine. Our aims are to introduce children aged between 5 - 15 to Middle Eastern Dance and music in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Classes are held on Tuesdays at 4.45 - 5.45pm at Danceworld, Lower Dock Street, Newport and led by Catherine, as Debbi has had to leave the Juniors due to work committments. Newcomers are always welcome.
The girls have performed at haflas, Tredegar House Folk Festival and at Caerleon Arts Festival over the last three years, and two of our Juniors now dance with Jawahir. Jawahir Juniors have been dancing at Tredegar House since 2006. Performing takes a lot of dedication on the part of our girls, but if you don''t want to perform, don''t worry, you are welcome to just come and enjoy the class.
Catherine has been dancing with Jawahir for over 5 years, performing at many different venues. She choreographs her own dances, and co-choreographs with others in the group, and has taught both adults and children. She has an up-to-date enhanced CRB check and works in a local primary school.
Catherine is also able to offer workshops for Brownies, Guides, Schools and other groups. She can take groups of up to 30 children, and provide a coin belt and bindi for each child and adult to wear whilst they dance. Even boys in year 6 have enjoyed the sessions! In fact, they are often more enthusiastic than the girls! If you would like to book her to visit your group or school please use the link below.
Our girls danced beautifully again this year at Tredegar House Folk Festival.
We try to do something different with the Juniors. Here are the older girls dancing Bollyrobics, Monama.
The weather this year was fantastic for the festival.
